Terms ofService

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of foxhut.online and everything on it (the "Site"), operated by Fox Hut. By using the Site you agree to these Terms and to our privacy policy, which forms part of them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Definitions#

• "Content" means the articles, guides, infographics, illustrations, data tables and other material published on the Site.
• "You" or "reader" means anyone who accesses the Site.
• "Third-party services" means services run by others, including advertising, analytics and any site we link to.

2. Who may use the Site#

The Site is written for a general audience and is free to read. If you are under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian's involvement — particularly for anything on this site that involves approaching, handling or helping a wild animal.

3. Our content and your licence to use it#

All original Content on the Site — text, illustrations, infographics, data tables, page design and the Fox Hut name and logo — is our intellectual property or is licensed to us, and is protected by copyright and trademark law.

You may read, print and share our articles for your own personal, educational or non-commercial use, and you may quote us — please quote accurately and link back to the article you took it from. What you may not do without written permission:

• Republish an article in full, or a substantial part of one, on another website, in print, or in an app.
• Rewrite or spin our articles to produce derivative content, whether by hand or with an automated tool.
• Use our illustrations or infographics separately from the article they belong to.
• Use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you, your product or your organisation.

Where we quote or reproduce a small amount of third-party material — a phrase from a paper, a figure described in the text — we do so for commentary, criticism, research and education, and we credit the source. If you hold rights in something reproduced here and object, see our DMCA and copyright policy.

4. Acceptable use#

You agree not to:

• Use the Site in breach of any applicable law.
• Scrape, crawl or bulk-download the Site in a way that burdens our infrastructure, or to build a competing content set or train a commercial model without permission.
• Interfere with the Site, probe it for vulnerabilities, or attempt to access anything not intended to be public.
• Strip out or alter copyright, credit or attribution notices.
• Send us material you do not have the right to send.

5. What you send us#

If you email us a photograph, a sighting, a correction or a suggestion, you confirm that it is yours to send. You keep ownership of it, and you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it on the Site and in related material, with credit where you have asked for it. We may edit, decline or remove anything sent to us, and we may quote your correction in an article unless you tell us not to.

We never publish the location of an active den, and we strip location metadata from images before publishing. If you send us a photograph that identifies a den site, we will treat that location as confidential.

6. Wildlife advice: important limits#

Fox Hut is written by a field naturalist, not a vet, an ecologist under contract, or a lawyer. Our articles describe what is generally true of foxes and what wildlife rescues generally advise. They are not:

• Veterinary advice. For a sick or injured animal, contact a vet or a wildlife rescue.
• Legal advice. Wildlife, firearms, trapping and animal welfare law differ by country, state and even county. Check your own local law before acting on anything here.
• A licence to interfere with wildlife. In many jurisdictions, disturbing a den, trapping, relocating or killing a wild animal is regulated or prohibited.

7. Advertising#

The Site is paid for by advertising, including Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google My Ad Center or the Digital Advertising Alliance.

Consent is collected with Google's certified consent management platform (Privacy & messaging in AdSense, formerly Funding Choices). For readers in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland we obtain consent before advertising and analytics cookies are set, as Google's EU user consent policy and the UK and EU GDPR require, and the choice is recorded as an IAB TCF v2.2 signal. For readers in California and other US states with comparable laws, opting out enables Google's restricted data processing and is recorded as an IAB Global Privacy Platform signal; we also honour Global Privacy Control. We do not control the content of ads, we do not endorse advertised products, and any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and them. We do not accept sponsored articles, and no advertiser has any say in what we publish.

8. Links to other sites#

We link to research papers, wildlife charities, government bodies and rescue organisations. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content or policies, and a link is not an endorsement.

9. Accuracy, and no warranty#

We check every factual claim against published sources and correct errors when they are pointed out. Even so, the Site and all Content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any article is complete or current for your particular situation.

10. Limitation of liability#

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fox Hut and the people who run it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Site or reliance on anything in it. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Indemnity#

You agree to hold us harmless from claims, damages and reasonable costs arising out of your misuse of the Site, your breach of these Terms, or your infringement of anyone else's rights.

12. Copyright complaints#

We respond to notices of alleged infringement. The full procedure, including what a notice must contain and how to file a counter-notice, is set out in our DMCA and copyright policy. Notices go to contact@foxhut.online.

13. Governing law#

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute — except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections and the right to bring proceedings in your own country's courts where the law gives you that right.

14. International readers#

The Site is operated from the United Kingdom. Much of the practical advice reflects UK and European conditions and law; where an article covers North America or elsewhere, it says so. You are responsible for complying with your own local law.

15. Changes, suspension and the rest#

• We may update these Terms; the date at the top changes when we do, and continuing to use the Site means you accept the update.
• We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the Site at any time.
• If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
• Sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, indemnity and governing law survive any termination.
